Video capturing problem
Q.
I haven’t been able to input the swings. I have set it up according to the instructions, and
connected the camera using the FireWire connection and wasn’t able to get anything
through
the (Standard version) program.
A.
Golf Swing Analysis System Professional has built-in video capturing
software, but the Standard version does not have anything to do with the actual video
capturing process. A swing is first captured and saved as an .AVI file, utilizing your capture
device's software, and then it's loaded into the Golf Swing Analysis System Standard
program. Please
refer to the Step-by-Step Guide, HOW TO VIDEO CAPTURE SWINGS... and start at
Step 1. Follow each one, especially Step 6. The initially captured video must be rendered and
saved before being used.

Can't Load Video into Video Work Tool (Standard
version)
Q.
When I open MY video clip in File>Open>Video>Play the clip plays no problem.
But when I try to use the clip File>Open>Video>Work all I get is a load of colored dots.
The demo swing clip file you bundle with the software works fine.
A.
If you are having trouble loading your swing video into the video work tool, the solution likely involves the video codec (compressor/decompressor) you've chosen or didn't choose at all. When you initially capture the swing, it is a "raw" .AVI video file and not useful until you render it with a video codec and save it in your video editing software. Then, the file size is much reduced and playing the video can be handled easily by your computer. The recommended video codec to select is
the latest version from Indeo, a common Windows codec. Refer to the Step-By-Step Guide for more details. In the section, How to VIDEO CAPTURE SWINGS... Step 6 covers that aspect. Important Note: Be sure the video file format is ".AVI" not ".MPEG." .MPEG video files can be opened and played in the Video Player window, but they can not be displayed in the Video Work tool. .MPEG video doesn't give the frame-by-frame information we need to analyze the swing.

Trouble using Moviemaker
software
(Standard version)
Q.
I have difficulty saving the files as ".AVI" at the time of importing a swing from my digital
camcorder to the computer. I use Microsoft's Moviemaker in windows XP.
A.
There are better video editing software programs than Moviemaker, which only offers minimal options. Your capture card normally comes with its own digitizing software application,
Ulead, Pinnacle Systems, etc., which gives you much more control. Use
that capture/editing application.
(Golf Swing Analysis System Professional
does not require any other application.)

Renaming Swing Analysis
Q.
How do I rename a saved swing (analysis) folder?
A.
You can rename a Swing Analysis folder just as you would any other folder on your computer. Go to Windows Explorer or My Computer and locate the folder you want to rename. New Swing Analysis folders are created inside the SWINGS folder, which is a GOLF SWING ANALYSIS SYSTEM sub folder. Just find the SWING ANALYSIS folder you want, right-click and select RENAME from the popup menu. Type the new name... and that's
it.

Removing Swing
Analysis
Q.
Can I delete a (analysis) swing folder if I don't want it anymore?
A.
Yes, you can delete any Analysis folder inside your SWINGS folder. However, don't delete the SWINGS folder itself.

Questions. Saving
custom graphics
Q.
How do I save custom graphics?
A.
The answer is a little involved, so please refer to in-program Help, choose Program, Advanced User Tips, and How to
Make, Save and Reuse Custom Graphic Overlays. Or see, How to create and use your own graphics rather than pre-built Analysis Work section graphic overlays.

Using Sony DV
Gate and MovieShaker software (Standard version)
Q.
When I import a video clip into the Video Work Tool, I only see the upper left
corner of the clip. I assume it is because I render the clip at 720x480
(not sure of the numbers right now) rather than 320x240 resolution the
program uses. The problem is that I shoot video with a Sony MiniDV camera
and import it using Sony's Video Gate software. It does not allow me to
select the 320x240 resolution for rendering. Any ideas?
A.
DV GATE is Sony's capturing program. After you've captured the video, it should be loaded in your editing software, Sony's MovieShaker, and then saved to the resolution and video codec we want. (Golf Swing Analysis System
Professional includes built-in capture software and displays large, high-resolution images.)

Video
capturing with a Macintosh computer running Virtual PC (Standard version)
Q.
I have been trying to find ways to either capture directly from video camera or transfer video clips from Mac to virtual PC. I have tried few programs which did not work.
A.
iMovie can save captured video as a Windows .AVI file. So, use iMovie on the Mac side as you originally intended, then when you render the video in your editing software select .AVI as the type and save it. The printed Step-by-Step guide provides specific video rendering information. Then, simply load that file into Golf Swing Analysis
System Standard. (Golf Swing Analysis System Professional has a
custom video capturing tool within the program. However, Professional can
not be used with a Macintosh computer.)

Can't save
analysis
Q.
Today I couldn't get the file>save to come up as I was trying to create and save a swing folder. I haven't had that
problem before. I had the Analysis Work Tool active but I couldn't get save to come up on the main menu under file. I have saved about six swings with no problem until today. I must have done something wrong.
A.
You need to make the Swing Analysis' Picture Player the active window, not Analysis Work, in order to see the FILE> SAVE selection on the main menu. In essence, this tells the program
where to save the analysis sections you've put together. ^ Return to
Questions.
Trouble
doing a rear view analysisQ.
I open a new swing analysis – choose rear. I open the analysis I just created – shows correct picture. I open the
analysis work tool – side view (female golfer) shows. What am I missing?
A.
You're not missing anything. The Analysis
Work Tool's "silhouetted female golfer" placeholder images (although they’re SIDE
views) have no effect on the actual analysis you're doing, whether from the side
or rear view. Just go ahead and put together the analysis sections that are appropriate for a rear-viewed
swing, using the drop-down menu in the Analysis Work Control window.

Analysis Work
Tool keeps previous swing analysis
Q.
The Analysis window has the pictures of the old analysis I did, each time I start a new Swing analysis.
A.
The Analysis Work tool is designed to hold work in-progress so that you can shut down the program and later pick up where you left off. If you're done with a swing, you can save the results. Current Analysis Work tool images can simply be overwritten by capturing a new swing's pictures. Or if you prefer, you can reset the Analysis Work tool to the default placeholder images and data by going to the main menu, choose TOOLS > OPTIONS... click the "Reset Analysis Work Area Now" button.

Getting the
swing into the Video Work
Tool and saving it (Standard version)
Q.
My capture software made an .avi file of the swing I recorded in My Documents
(folder). Now I can't figure out how that goes into the (swing analysis) folder or
the program's Video Work Tool.
A.
Let's say you've named that swing "swing_1.avi" in the My Documents folder, although you can tell your capture software to save it in
another folder. From the main menu, open the VIDEO WORK tool. When the VIDEO WORK tool, or another window is activated (highlighted), menu items change slightly to relate to the active window. When VIDEO WORK is active, you'll see a new menu item under FILE>OPEN>VIDEO (WORK)... and also a related item in the menu bar (looks like a camera with lines above and below), Select either one of these to bring up a file open dialog box. From there, find the folder with the swing you want to analyze. In this example, that would be locating the My Documents folder and opening it by double-clicking. Select
"swing_1.avi." and click the Open button. That swing video will now play once on the VIDEO WORK tools screen. Use the VIDEO WORK controls to choose what you want to do. From Video WORK control's drop-down menu, choose Quick Video, Graphics or Analysis depending on what you'd like to do. See printed or in-program Help for details. Getting the
"swing_1.avi" swing video into the (named) swing analysis folder you've created is simple. With the swing analysis loaded and the active window, main menu will have an item FILE>SAVE>VIDEO. Select it and a copy of the swing in the VIDEO WORK tool will now be created in your new swing
analysis folder.

Saving swing
analysis to a videocassette recorder
Q.
I am attempting to save my swing analysis to VCR tape. My video card has a TV/Out connector. By using my video card program I was able to get video saved in my computer to play on my
TV. However, I was unable to get anything saved in my Golf Swing Analysis program to appear on my
TV. Any suggestions on how I might get my swing analysis to appear on my TV.
A.
If you can see your computer's desktop or other applications on your TV, then you should be able to see the Golf Swing Analysis System screen, the program is no different than other Windows-type applications. Check Control Panel, Display's Advanced section. See if you can select a TV display, or both the computer and TV display outputs. Also see your video card's documentation.

Questions. Length
of the swing video (Standard version)
Q.
Regarding the swing video length, does it have to be 4 seconds? Or can I play the file for as long as it is? Say six seconds.
A.
You don't have to trim the video to exactly 4 seconds, it can be any length. When you've put together a library with dozens of swings, having them all a standard length will make it better to synchronize swings, work with them and keep the files to a reasonable size.
^ Return to
Questions. Selecting
swings for comparisons
Q.
How can I select swings to do side by side swing comparisons.
A.
Say you've created and saved two swing analysis' named "A" and "B" in the Swings folder. Go to the Main Menu, choose FILE>OPEN>SWING ANALYSIS. From the file open dialog box, select "A" from the Swings folder. Repeat the process, choosing "B." You can now position "A" and "B" side-by-side and view them in any manner you wish. Use the "Position Buttons" to neatly place the windows next to each other. You can also make changes to
"A" and "B" if you want.

Questions. Choosing
and working with different Analysis sections
Q.
On the rear view, I couldn't figure out how to use the tracking lines for swing plane, toe line, hand and club path, etc. The side view worked out easy using the tutorial instructions.
A.
After you've captured your Key Position pictures in the Analysis Work tool, choose PLANE from Analysis Control's drop-down menu. Click Key Position #1, Address and place the line where you want. Some people check plane from the ball through
the top of shoulders, and others like to place the line over the club shaft and extend it through the body. To work with the other sections, select
Alignment, Tracking and the rest from Analysis Control's menu .

Questions. Clubhead
looks blurred
Q.
The preliminary shots are showing the club blurred. Any ideas?
A.
The blurred clubhead could be caused by:
1. Not setting the shutter speed before video recording.
Set your camcorder's record mode to Sports, or select a shutter speed of 1/1000, even 1/500 in good light should be OK.
2. When you initially capture video you might see a blurred picture, or more precisely, two images at the same time. The video will be clear after you render and save it in your video capturing software. Refer to the Step-by-Step
pamphlet and in-program Help's Video Recording/Capturing guidelines for more information.
^ Return to
Questions. Can't
see all the video
Q.
When I capture a swing and save it to an avi. file and open the file to the
"video work" screen it only fills a quarter of the screen.
A.
If the swing video has not been saved at the proper resolution before loading it in the
Video Work Tool, then you'll only see part of the video, the upper left corner. After you capture a swing, in your video editing software, save it with the 320 by 240 resolution setting. (Golf Swing Analysis System
Standard version. Professional uses higher resolutions.)

Questions. Camera
makes .MPEG, not .AVI video files
Q.
My capture software makes mpeg files, how do I get them to avi files? The software is Pixela, it came with the Sony dcr-trv240 digital camera I just bought.
A.
Your camcorder model has an option for USB still image and .MPEG video capture. Not what you want. Don't use the USB connection and software that came with your camcorder. Instead connect the FireWire cable to your camcorder and computer iLink ports. Use the software that came with the digital video capture device.
(Professional version has built-in video capturing
software.) This will allow you to capture high quality digital video .AVI files.

Lost the instructions
Q.
Lost all of our manuals and written material. I have reloaded the system and need the info immediately. The
Swing analysis has been great for my business. Let me know if I need to pay
for the shipping. I just need it in a hurry.
A.
Because you need the setup and other instructions as soon as possible, I suggest you simply open the READ ME text file that was included on the program installation CD-ROM. Highlight, copy and print the Step-By-Step Guide installation, capturing and other material. If you need anything more than that, please let me know.

Can't Process Video
Q.
I can't load the (captured) video in the video works tool.
(In the Video Capture Tool's processing section) It is "converted/saved as" and
outputted to video works. What am I doing wrong?
A.
If you want to output a swing video from the Video Capture to the Video Work Tool, there's no
need to process the video file with "convert/save as." From the Output
button group, just select one of the Video Work Tool's files/buttons where you want to save it and click
the "Convert" button, not the "Convert/Save As" button. After the video is processed, it will be available when you open the Video
Work Tool and select that same numbered file/button.
When I open the Video Capture tool
the program shuts down
Q.
I had no problem installing the (Professional version) software. I was performing the first tutorial in the manual. I used a digital camera/camcorder and connected via usb device to the usb port. When I clicked the video capture tool I received a windows error message and a notation that the program had to shut down. Is it necessary to have a camera that connects via IEEE1394 firewire?
A.
Yes. Firewire, also referred to as iLink or IEEE1394, is the best way to connect your digital format camcorder to your computer. Firewire will give you the highest performance and provide the finest digital video quality.
Don't use your USB cable/connection for trying to capture video within the
program.
Can't Move Program Window
Q.
If run less than full screen I am not able to move the PAS window.
A.
This is by design. Putting Analysis System requires dedicating all your computer's resources to the tasks necessary, no other applications should be running and therefore no partial screen situation is needed, nor desired from a technical standpoint.
